Just a question guys . The metering plate that comes stock is that usually enough for WOT ,I never hear of anybody changing these, I looked in Jegs catalogue, what do you do change them like jets.

Yes, there are different size plates, but most folks tune with primary jets and power valve first.  Most 600 carbs can be tweaked to perform very well without changing the secondary plate.  If you need more, then maybe a step up in carburetor size is the answer.  Joe-JDC

Thanks joe I tell ya it runs very well no hesitations at all. But was just thinking track wise there might be some power I'm giving up. I am goin to be changing the front jets, reason being I have to turn the adjusters out 2.5 turns. I usually like a turn or a turn and a half. Am I correct in thinking this

the plates are only 8.00 last time I checked ..... if you know what you want you can order richer idle side with same main jet and vice versa , quite a few choices but like Joe mentioned they don't seem to need a whole lot of tuning on the secondary

I believe you can buy secondary plates that take a jet instead of just a drilled hole.

I have a quick fuel kit for the secondary with gaskets , plate and notched float for 1850's with side pivot float ...., it's lot more money than a couple plates but after the fact  I had a really smart engine builder/SS racer ( BP ) tell me don't do anything to the secondary that requires modification to the float , as the secondary float has a hard time controlling fuel flow in a race environment as is , if you have center pivot bowl's it don't matter .... since the QF float are notched pretty good for the side pivot bowl I decided to not even try them

Well I will play around with it without playing around with the float. That BP guy knows his shit, going to jet first then get vacuum reading and check power valve thanks guys

Granted the race car has 2 1850's on it, but years back I put different plates on the secondary sides(thinking it would go faster).  When I rebuilt it into the 462ci, I finally dynoed it.  We ended up put both carbs back to box stock on jetting and secondary plates and it put it right into ballpark for AFR at WOT.
