RobbMc Bellhousing Alignment Dowels
« on: January 21, 2016, 02:42:58 PM »
Had some issues with my QuickTime bell alignment.
After finally figuring out the offset I needed I ordered a set of offset dowels. Measured the
angle it needed to be moved and set them at the same angle.
Put it back together and now I'm at .002 run out.
First time I've done this and they worked great. Nice thing about them
is they tighten with an allen head and you can turn them easily if they need any adjustment.
This is not meant to be an advertisement just to let anyone that is having issues dialing in their bell how well these
things work.

Interesting.
I dialed a Quicktime on a factory block and it was right on.
Was this a factory block?

It was a Pond block but my bell was made in 09 so I don't know if
that makes a difference or not.  It was off by .024 so it wasn't even close.

Weld in dowels: RobbMc Bellhousing Alignment Dowels

Some people weld in the dowels after they are set so you can pull it and change the clutch and not worry about re-setting it.

Not to start a big argument, but maybe the block is off.
Did you measure the block?
I have the tools in my shed to measure all aspects of a block or bell
so if something was not correct I would first find out which part is not correct.
As a life long machinist I have seen lots of situations where it was assumed that it was the less
expensive part that was questioned when in fact it was the big ticket item that was not to spec.
just  saying
The Quicktime bell I measured was date SFI date stamped in 2015.

No I didn't measure the block Howie.
All I was concerned with was getting it aligned.
Had someone tell me that the older QT bells were not as well machined as the newer ones.
I don't know if that is true or not.
I have an original 427 block sitting here and I may throw it on there and see how close it is.
Talked to Brent about this and he has never had any issues with a Pond block. This block was new,
new crank and no line bore.

Highly doubt the block is in question.  Brand new block, brand new crank, never been line bored.

I see a lot more bellhousings than most guys...between the ones that I install here and the feedback I get from customers.  Quicktime, overall, is top notch quality, but I have heard 3-4 instances of them being off.  Gary just got the short end of the stick....
