Elvis movie Clambake
« on: January 05, 2016, 04:20:44 PM »
The 1967 Elvis movie "Clambake" is coming on this afternoon ( 1-5-2015 ) at 4:25 pm Eastern time / 3:25 pm Central time on the "Retro" cable ( and possibly satellite ) channel. I know this is old news for most of us, but in case some don't know there's a FE powered ski boat featured in the film including some good close ups of the FE during the scene part way through the film where Elvis is fixing the boat inside the shop. Otherwise typical mid-sixties Elvis stuff. It's been on a few times lately, I'm guessing it may repeat.

The King was a gear head.
I don't get that channel.
I did just watch Bikini Beach with the "Rails".  :)

That boat used in the movie is a Mandella V-drive and is a full on marathon race boat. It was owned by Louie Brummet  [owner of Mandella boats at that time] and he used FEs in many of his race boats. That boat and several other of his boats ran the Salton Sea 500 back in the 60s. I don't think Elvis drove the boat in any of the race scenes, Louie did.

Thanks for the boat info, I did a little reading on them tonight. Internet has a lot of good photos as well. Always interesting to learn this stuff.

I should have taken a picture of it but at Isky Cams there is a card signed by Elvis on the wall that thanks Isky for his help in the film.  Guess he arranged getting boats or cars for them.

Most Elvis movies have cool cars.

Didn't you read my post, BB?  That is a factory 427 low riser intake; in the first photo you can barely see the unique hole in the carb flanges...
