Yes, the option that never happened. Hopefully your post on the subject doesn't go nuclear lol. I believe the "*Special Order 302" listed on that list is the 302 tunnel port motor that was never released to the public either.

Funny I believe that Special Order 302 was the motor between the 67 289-271HP and the 69/70 BOSS 302. For some reason I want to say it was a J-code. The guy I bought my (2) Chris Craft Marine 427 Side Oilers from had a white 68 fastback w/C-stripes and the really hot factory 302. My friend the Ford Ind Rep with Holman Moody roots was with me and he backed up the story on that motor and said the care was really a rare piece

The "J" code is the new 302 4V engine...a whopping 235HP...Other than the 68 head castings it is nothing special.The 68 heads have 4V cast in them..Other than 3 "F" code 302 2V's built all 68's with a 302's are "J" code.There was no 289 4V's built in 68 so if you wanted a SB 4V it was the 302

I also believe the other 302 was the tunnel port.I doubt we will ever know..
The 427 GTE's were all automatics
1968 Mustang Fastback...427 MR 5spd (owned since 1977)
1967 Mustang coupe...Trans Am replica

The strike in the fall of 1967 really screwd up the 68 model year. The strike lasted 68 days and set everything back. Alot of early 1968 production was lost and the 427 in Fords and the tunnelport 302 were sacraficed to keep the production lines cranking according to a friend of my dad. I do't remember how much of car production was lost but it was alot..that I do remember. The big news then was the new 429 engine for 1968. People who worked at Ford talked about the 429 and no more 427. I had a chance back in 1978 to buy a 67 mustang coupe that had 4 wheel disc brakes and a tunnel port 302. The guy was a Kelsey Hayes engineer and had managed to buy this test mule for the boss 302. He had to return the Boss 302 engine to ford but was allowed the tunnelport as a keeper. I wanted to buy the shell and it was a shell with a roll bar and front seats. Perfect no rust body. Problem was with the title and I decided it was trouble to get it registered and bought another Mustang.
