FE Intake ID
« on: November 17, 2015, 06:01:14 AM »
I picked this up from the guy I bought my block from. I wanted to go with an intake that had the oil filler tube and didn't realize that Blue Thunder sells intakes with the filler hole. There are no casting numbers on it so I was wondering if anyone knew what it might have been from.

Looks like the early 390 HP intake.  It's a decent early intake.

On another note, do yourself a favor and buy Jay's book "Great Intake Comparo"
It's about so much more than intakes.

Ah, great site. It looks very similar to  this one, but without casting #s.
I don't have that bottom plate though, is that needed? I assume it's there to catch those hex plugs if they work themselves loose.

Yes, that's the one. You can run it w/o that OEM tin plate as if you look around, most OEM intakes don't have it. It's designed to keep oil off the heat riser passages to prevent coking of oil splashed on the runenrs.

Some may disagree but IMO they often didn't work as intended and lots of coked-up oil ended up on/under those shields anyway. If your really into it, run the OEM Ford valley shield which again IMO is a better fix to keep oil way from the intake's bottom.

Another fine fix is to block off the exhaust crossover (no heat=no caked up burnt oil)

That is definitely a 390 HP intake.

Looks later than that to me, maybe 406 or 427 Low Riser.
The runners look too wide, here is a 390HP type ...
