the smog hole in the termostat housing for the electrical fans temp sending unit or is that a bad idea?
-68 Torino GT with a 390 that turned out to be a 360 but now is becoming a 445....

I don't see why that wouldn't work, I think you'd be fine doing that.

Don't see why it wouldn't work..I have been using that hole for years to install a sensor for a high water (temp) light...
