What I find interesting about the story is the fact that the door tag is a repo...the rounded top corners and correctly spaced stampings are a dead give away...The oem tags just don't look like that...JMO....Cory

I don't know enough to know if the door tag is real or repro. I could see the spacing being a bigger factor on a reproduction than the rounded corners.

I've never spent a lot of time looking at the tags, so did a little research. The one on my 67 has squared corners and the spacing is ok. Going Googling for images of 68 tags had squared and rounded corners. The Marti Auto works site shows both tags. It's an interesting story anyhow.

I have always paid close attention to the tags...My 68 was built just before the 135 cars in SJ..It is square cornered and the stampinig is off to the left of everything..
My 67 is square cornered as well..I have around 5 tags for 68's and the original off my 67...All are square cornered.

In the mid 80's I had a repo made to replace my beaten up 68 tag..Obvious round upper corners and perfectly placed stamps..I have since pulled it off and put the original back on..

I have a Kevin Marti tag for my 67 as the original was completely painted over..Stamping is correct and it "does" have very slightly rounded upper corners.This made be a trade mark thing or just away to keep the oem one obvious..

That's an interesting note on the door tag. I have 3 originals, all square cut. The repro on my Mach 1 has the very slightly rounded upper corners. That alone is enough to do some serious questioning, which could affect value in a big BIG way. Interesting story though, and still a cool car.

Well I hope the story of the 135 car is true and we have indeed found another one...The door tag however bothers me and I don't understand it...

Following picture show some tags..One has the stamps well placed and is OEM.Bottom one is the repo I had made in the 80's.One above that is my oem tag...Repo is painfully obvious and not a Kevin Marti tag

also..this is one of 50 purpose built race cars....the DSO says this is one of the lightweights with sound deadner and seam sealer deleted by the factory....How come the car has a heater..the car before it #44 doesn't appear to have one..

And...why does the door tag say that this purpose built race car that wasn't sold to the public say this car came with a 3.25 rear axle and a wide ratio trans.....I thought they were all 3.91 or 4.3...

I know David too, and I know the quality of stuff he buys, and the circles he runs in, and I remember the research he did on that car when he bought it.  It's the real deal, that gang lives and breathes CJ part numbers, paint daubs, assembly techniques, you name it.

I never knew about the tag though, that is odd.

The story is old though, it's been run hard down the strip quite a few times since those pictures and Blair built the current version of the engine
