FE Reunion pictures....
« on: April 27, 2015, 10:17:34 PM »
This technically isn't "technical", but I wasn't sure where to post it. It IS FE though, so I put it here :)  Feel free to move it if you prefer, Jay.

You could put hundreds of photos on here and still not show what all there was to see, but I'll try to post a few I thought were interesting.

A small sampling Friday of what was to come Saturday.

A row of Hot FE class cars ready to run.

The SUPER nice ramp truck used to haul the Fuelie Fairlane below it. It was small block powered, but this truck was beautiful inside and out.

The Fuel Injected Fairlane.

The blown Comet Altered. This car was pretty cool, running on a fairly mild street tune and through the full exhaust out the back. It was just BEGGING to have the fenderwell headers uncorked! He did make some runs and it ran pretty well and seemed stable going down the track. They did a nice job on the car.

The ramp truck was pretty cool, and it gets my vote for Best Car Hauler, but Larrys Mack would always win best Race Rig. It just looks cool. Wish I could have seen him going down the road in it.

Other cars that were just plain cool and nicely done. At least some of many...

A very nice "Peanuts" Galaxie. Done as a tribute to Al Joniec.

A really sharp '64 done the old fashioned way....it earned it :)

An absolutely BEAUTIFUL 406 Tri-power Convertible. This car would have been perfect if it weren't for a blade of grass on one of the tires ;D

There were quite a few really nice Starliners there also.  More than I had ever seen together in one place. This '61 390 Tri-power was another beautiful example. Another car that would have been absolutely perfect if it weren't for a piece of dust that had blown in off the field and landed on it  :)

A really clean installation in a black '55 Ford 2dr post car. I really liked this car and Dick Brannan voted it his favorite. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the car ???

The Edsel Wagon that won best of show. SUPER clean and nice.

I like wagons. Especially 2 door cars. I have a '58 2-dr that I'll be dragging out of storage soon. This 427 2x4 powered '57 was neat and had been together quite a while.

This Fuel Injected Tri-power Starliner had a full new Mustang racing front suspension on it. A lot of work, but it was very nicely done.

A '73 Mustang with a 427....which I promptly showed to a buddy of mine who has a '72 Mach 1...lol

A really nice Comet and Torino. The Torino had a nice looking Crossram on it. The engine looked nice with the intake, clean installation job and clear dizzy cap. I imagine that thing gives off quite a light show at night!

Barry's table showing a set of his CNC heads, a set of his MR stands, one of Jays unported adapters and his removeable timing cover along with Barry's hopefully soon to be available prototype adjustable timing set. I think it's awesome that these two are working together on this and coming up with a useable design for us FE'ers. I have one of Jays adapters and covers, so I'll definitely be in line for the adjustable set. Finally got a chance to buy Barrys and Jays books also...without paying shipping. Yeah, I'm cheap  ;D

I'm only showing this one to put a little fear into Barry. My "negotiator" almost had him giving me a set of CNC ported heads before he knew what he was doing. Sadly, he came out of his initial deer-in-the-headlights mode and promptly asked us to leave....with his condolences to me...lol  Whenever I saw him after that, he waved, but I think he was actually waving me on. Or maybe it was some other jesture ;D

The '58 that's always worth showing, just because I like '58s, and because it's super fast. In fact, the fastest car there. Capable of low 9s and I've seen it in the 8s in good conditions.

An Honorable Mention from the parking lot. A 1960 F-250 4wd. Only the second year for the 4wd. I had a '59 some years ago and really wish I had kept it. These trucks are just no-bones cool. It's powered by the original 223, I chatted with the owner for a while. The 223 engine in mine was the first engine I ever rebuilt and is still going good after 30 years in another truck.

This car was just downright cool in my book. Perhaps the coolest car there, but then you guys know I'm just a bit partial to '69s ;D  I also almost missed it. I only saw it as we were walking on our way out Saturday when everyone was loading their cars.

This is Pat Schumachers old SS Mustang that he ran in 1970-71. Although It also ran in Stock for a time I believe. I remember this car from Ohio, where he was based, when I was very young. The current owner has had it since 1971 after buying it off Tom. It held the National Record at one point. The car is so original it's amazing. Same candy metallic paint, which had a really neat cracking/crazing going on under the paint that looked like it was supposed to be that way! Same graphics and stickers, with just a few stickers added over the years, but still had the painters and stripers signatures on the quarter pillars. Original interior, all the mods that were done to the car in its original form, including a T-bolt style rear suspension set-up that tied into the frame inside the car (which I DIDN'T get a picture of...stupid! >:( ) . Original old school "hoop" style roll bar. Except for the engine, radiator, wheels, the two extra dash gauges and I think the switch box, this car is just as it was ran in 1970. A super piece of semi-obscure history. The gentleman that owned it was there with his family I believe and was super nice in answering a lot of questions and telling me about it. You just don't see the old race cars in this original condition anymore.

If you scroll about halfway down this page to page 107 (21-106 aren't shown anyway), there is some history about Tom Schumacher if none of you have heard of him.

The 1960 pu brought back some memories. When I was a kid growing up in north Maple Ridge in the late sixties, there was a guy that lived down the hill from me that had an off white '60 4x4 that had a rumblin' stumblin' 390 fe in it with a stick and a big round orange Isky decal in the back window. I havent thought about that thing in decades, but seeing that pic brought it back.

Thanks for those Doug.
Been dying for a set of "pit walk" pics.
Would be a heck of a neat road trip from LA.
Hmmm.

Great pictures, Doug, thanks for posting.  I've just got to get there next year...

Yes, Jay, you really need to go. I was really surprised that there were only 2 Cammers there, and I missed one of them ::)  You will never see this many cool FE powered cars in one place.

I'm already pricing enclosed car trailers and getting back to work on the truck. One way or the other, I'm taking my car next year! Surprisingly, there were only a few '69 Mustangs, while you couldn't throw a stone without hitting a Fairlane or Galaxie. Not that I wanted to test that theory ;D

Thanks for the compliments, Bob. You could literally fill up pages of pictures. I was there both days and STILL missed stuff. But it was great meeting a couple fellow forum members from here. Len had to pronounce his name a few times and emphasize the Z before I realized it was LenZ and not Lens...lol Unfortunately he disappeared after that and I didn't see him again. It would have been nice to chat some more.

Marc, LA would be a LONG haul! And I thought 7hrs was bad  :o

Doug,
Many thanks for posting all the pics, along with your story lines!  Some excellent FE candy and workmanship too.  Looks like you had a beautiful day for it as well.

It was good to meet you Doug.  In fairness to you my unimaginative forum name can make it difficult.  "Len" works fine.  Gotta say I kept an eye open for a chance to chat with you later on since we were both looking over Barry's table when we met.  It didn't occur to me to go for the free cylinder heads, as I recall the word "Free" was written with an arrow that pointed in the correct direction ::).  One only had to look past the thermostat housing gaskets to get there........

I figured I'd spot you again at some point but never did.  Then again, it is a bit tough to locate someone when you can't stop checking out everything on all sides.  Guess we'll need to do a better job of it next year.

Great set of pictures and you're quite right, it would take a lot more space to try to truly represent the event.  I was there last year and everything in every category right down to vendors appears (at least) to have expanded.  Look forward to the video, it was a helluva show :D

I highly recommend this weekend to anyone who can make it next year.  Easy for me to say though, I'm only a little over 4 hours out.

Agreed.
I prolly won't make it next year as it'll probably take the next year to finish my 'lane. Cross fingers.
But, it's definitely something I want to make.
Lotsa nice folks on the way.

Len, as soon as you emphasized the Z It finally sunk in...lol Duh ;D

And I didn't catch the CNC heads in the "Free" section either, until my wife pointed out that they were in it. She immediately brought it to his attention that "These are included also, right?". That's when Barry stumbled and stammered with a confused look on his face. I should have just grabbed them and ran before he came to his wits. The next time he sees her coming, he'll probably throw a sheet over his table and run inside the trailer ;D

Doug - you definitely have a "keeper" there!
I may need to borrow her next time I am making a large purchase  :)

The race cars and show cars were simply unreal - so much to look at and so little time!

Every facet of the FE community was present and accounted for.  We had perfect restorations, legitimate vintage race cars, high tech modern street chariots, period correct race and muscle pieces, Super Stock legal drag cars, Cobra kits, just anything you could imagine.  And EVERYBODY had huge grins on all weekend!

Jody, Doug, Beaver Bob all did an incredible job creating an event we can all be super proud of!

so Barry, what do you run for exhaust? your fairlane is the best sounding mufflered car I've ever heard. Had to run to the fence to see what was running that sounded so good.

Its 3.5" with an H pipe, Dynamax mufflers (you can see right through them) and tailpipes over axle and out to the bumper.  Sneaked around some decent size tires and ladder bars.  System has been similar for a couple decades.  Tim Young - my buddy that worked the trailer for me - originally built the system in my garage.  I had it replicated this past winter.

We appreciate everyone that came out to Beaver Springs and just as important all of the post show pictures, forum postings, videos, etc... these are the things guys like you do that make everyone who missed the show this year, eager to make it next year.

Thanks,
