Larry Larson runs in the 5s....
« on: March 05, 2015, 07:45:45 PM »
This happened last November, but I just found it. 5.95@244mph!! Holy smokes!! Looks like he's getting those bugs worked out, and the Unlimited guys at Drag Week had better be worried, or start turning the wick up to "self destruct".

50lbs of boost, 8700rpm, pulling almost 3gs at launch....only 2.2 seconds under the TOP FUEL RECORD. That's amazing!

Incredible.  No one could deny Larson's skills, but his unlimited $$$$$$$ and "spare time" to put it all together and dial it in would seem to put most folks at a disadvantage.  I confess that when I follow drag week I barely notice these cars, to me they're just too far over the top for the event.  Then again, who gets to set the top ???  Lots of folks have been down that road before.

I know what you mean, Len. The unlimiteds are pretty over the top, and definitely not something that someone with average income can even attempt. Plus he has a small army of support guys. Still, a 6 flat vehicle that you can drive 1000 miles is pretty impressive no matter how you look at it.

Amen to that Doug.  The "impressive" part is why I was careful in posting so as to not detract from Larry.  Beyond the resources he obviously has the natural talent and commitment needed to pull it off and he's certainly been putting those talents to work.

I really can't wait to see how he does at Mile High altitude at Bandimere for Rocky Mtn Race Week.  Should be quite interesting.   ;)

I don't know Larry well, but I've been talking to him sporadically at Drag Week since 2005.  Despite the money and effort that goes into his cars, you couldn't find a nicer, humbler guy if you tried.  In Larry's case, nice guys finish first!

That's the feeling I get watching him in interviews and such. And, except for the engine, he builds his own cars. That can't be said for any of the other competing Unlimited cars that I know of.
