70 F100 "find"
« on: November 18, 2013, 08:05:30 PM »
Thought I'd share this $600.00 Craigslist find we picked up in May. Just getting around to working on it here in the last few months. We are the 2nd official owners. This truck is unbelievably unmolested! 360 3spd. B/W T85 O.D. trans and 3.50 gears. The odometer shows 14K(Like 140,000) and after tearing into the eng/trans I believe its original. It still wears the original paint although faded. The plans are to keep it mostly original although the 360 I am outfitting with near vintage speed-dress up parts. The eng/trans is out and were going through the motor right now. Have a Streetmaster INT, 600 Holley D.P., Accel 'dual point' Dist, M/T valve covers, Fomoco adj rockers, OE Fomoco "shell lifters" and recently grabbed a pair of Kustom brand headers. Also have a Mr Gasket floor shifter for the trans.I'll post up some more pics soon.

great deal for $600.  some reason the bumpside became a collectors item recently....  Truck looks remarkably straight and unrusted.  Just a thought while you have the engine apart, no one can tell a 360 from a 390 or a 445.

Wow, what a steal!! Around my parts, you'll pay $500-$700 just for a good bed!

Dang, I've been looking for a solid cab for about 10 years. They either want a small fortune for them, or they're waaaay out west. And shipping one to Ohio just isn't justifiable. Nice find!!

[/quote] Drew, we kicked the idea around some, but would rather keep it straight forward for now ENG wise. I also don't want to upgrade the driveline & axles at this time! Already have done this with our 71 F100(31spl axles, 66 Lincoln hsg, 1pce driveline, etc)Besides, I always wanted to 'step on' a 360 just for the heck of it and see what we can drag out of the combo... The truck has just a few small dents/dings on it but nothing major. I have noticed the value of these trucks has been steadily on the rise as well.......CJ, fort unitally out West here(OREGON) there are some decent finds left laying around. As long as you stay away from the coast! thanks for the compliments.............

doug, there are a couple of these trucks in the $1k range where I live.  They really don't rust out cabs here, maybe a cab corner hole or a cab mount needing replaced.  Most times it is just a few holes in the front of the bed panel.
example: http://valdosta.craigslist.org/cto/4126159607.html

I've considered lately with the price of a good one of these trucks soaring past 3-5K buying a few like that one above and fixing it up for resale.

Yeah, you guys make me ill  ;)

When a lady pulled directly out in front of me a few years back, I hit her square on the right front corner in my F250 4wd.....so hard that it knocked a complete mouse nest out of the outside of my severely rusted door!  ::)

But I drove it home  ;D

Here are some more pics. The interior I have yet to start on so its untouched other than for parts storage right now. The Eng compartment cleaned up pretty decent. Ive got the trans ready to go back in and still workin on the Eng itself. Been 'cleaning up' the heads and intake. Hey CJ, I'd rather deal with mice than these black widows I found nested all over this truck.............

Lookin' Good!
The 70's have a lot of one year only parts on them. Of the 67-72's Think I like the 70 Grille the best. Yours looks to be in great shape.

Any rust on truck? Where are you located?

The 70 grille is our fav as well! Just surface rust here and there on the sheetmetal and some on the undercarriage. Your truck looks cleaner metal wise underneath than ours. This truck was last tagged in '98' and spent most of its life on a ranch haulin hay bails around so the inside of the bed is in very nice shape. Yeah I know what  you mean about the 1yr only pieces here and there on these trucks. Mostly trim and elec. switches from what I have seen. We are in Medford OR................
