Custom Pistons
« on: April 09, 2025, 11:31:29 PM »
Who are you guys buying your custom FE pistons from?

I want to build a 416 (4.080 bore with a 428 crank).  12.0 compression ratio so I need a dome.  0.720 lift cam so I need some valve notches.  Forged and I am willing for paid for a light weight piston; I don't want a heavy TRW piston.

I filled out a couple of custom piston request forms but they had questions about coatings, gas ports,  piston pins, and piston pin locks that I don't anything about.

Thanks

I've had good luck with CP-Carillo and Diamond.  I like to get custom pistons coated on the tops and the skirts; skirt coating is particulary useful with stroker cranks.  Gas ports help with ring seal by providing pressure behind the top ring. They can fill with carbon eventually but for most of us they will never be used enough to carbon over.  Standard pins are fine for most applications, but for very high HP levels a stronger pin can be had.  I also always use double spiro locks to retain the pins; I find them easier to use than the wire retainers that are available.

They are "still there"
Part of the Race Winning Brands corporate umbrella, which includes Diamond, Wiseco, Dart, Trend, Manley etc
The entire group has had some significant issues during/post covid - but still stumbling along.
