For engines like this, you're basically paying for the name. Gucci gloved Cobra drivers want everything to be Shelby. Not putting down Cobra owners, just the snobby type that want everything associated with Shelby. What seems a bit odd to me about the BAT auction is that you can buy basically the exact same engine from Shelby for $27k.

There are a couple of fairly minor differences, which would account for part of the price difference, but why not go straight to the source? I don't think you have any recourse for issues buying an engine on BAT.

There are very, very few cam profiles that can't be used on the street.  300+ duration and .700+ lift is easily streetable if the combination is right.

There used to be a guy down around Hayward in the late 70's that had a 69 Mach1 with a 427/454 that had a 330/600 cam in it, and 4.86 gears with a Locker. Commuted to work with it, as it was his only car. That cam is the absolute King of the shagnasty sounding beyotches. I have a NOS one still in the Ford tube- one of these days...

I used to use Denbeste for HAZMAT dirt hauling quite a bit, back before they got involved in engine building. They have carved out quite a niche with the kit car, leather glove crowd. I sold them a few 289 blocks a few years ago, before they got big. They have gotten a lot better, they entered the Engine Masters many years ago and got soundly spanked. They used to show up with beautiful HAZMAT tractor-trailers with tight tarping and sealed tailgates, and the trailers had onboard scales front and rear for loading, as some of the nasty stuff had to go to Kettleman City over several scales. Loaded them up with lots of very stinky "blue" dirt
