Mock on short block done
« on: May 29, 2022, 01:04:31 PM »
I got the 428 short block together and found a few minor things I had to correct.
The Canton pan and windage tray had one bolt hole that didn't quit line up so I fixed that.
The only other problem I had was the side seals.
Granted it has been a few years since I buildt a FE but I don't ever remember having so much trouble with these before.
I used the procedure bescribes in Barry's book and when I got them in I wasn"t confident in them sealing so I removed them and has about a 1/4 inch gap on the bottom on one side at the bottom.
Got another set out and tried again with about the same result.
Decided the heck with it and used Brent's method and just filled them with TA-31 as I could not find any of the Dow sealer in any of the store's around here.
One other correction I had to do was one of the bearing sheel's had a slight bend where it mates to the top of the cap.
It had about a 1/32 gap between it and the cap.
I have another set of Clrvite's and pulled a half from that set and the problem was gone.
Now to doing the heads.

I used the one in the Fel Pro gasket set.
It is getting Cometic head gasket's.
I would like to post a video if it doesn't blow up but don't know how to get the video out of my camers to the computer.
I won't get the Galaxie runing until next year because I still have to paint [all most ready] my 71 Ranchero and put it back together.
The only thing's that are stock on the 428 are the block and crank. Everything else is aftermarket including the brackers and stud's-bolt's.
