WTB 292 oil canister
« on: November 24, 2020, 01:17:43 PM »
Any of you 292 guys have an oil canister set up you wouldn’t mind parting with?
I’ve got an adapter on there and it’s been problematic. Figure I’ll just go back to the way it was designed and prolly (oops), probably be much happier. Not to mention my driveway won’t be as dirty.
Meanwhile I’ll be looking on the ol’ interweb.
Thanks
Marc

It's hard to imagine going back would be better.  A couple of things to make sure of is the oil hole orientation, that the adapter hasn't been tightened to the point it is flattened out too much, and the seal area is smooth.  A late model adapter from any truck, or car after '62 with 292 should be trouble free.  The C20E blocks are good ones for cores as well as accessory parts such as the oil filter fittings.  If you can get a large wrench on the center fitting, take it off, clean the old gasket and area, check the adapter plate for being completely flat, make sure the oil hole is positioned like ford says on the adapter, and install the gasket with a good sealer, re-install the center fitting and torque down really tight, and it should be leak free.  Make sure the oil drip is not from the oil pump tube, or oil pump, or pan gasket.  Joe-JDC

I’ve been looking around and I agree with you.
The newer adapters are looking pretty fool proof.
Whatever I do I’ll get down there on my next day off and take it out. Haven’t been in there for years.
Need an oil change anyway.

You may want to consider Timmy McMaster - “The Y-Block Guy” - at Hanford Auto Supply in Hanford California, for any Y-Block parts or help. He’s not too far from you. Just a tip.

Thanks Kevin
I know of him. Been in my head for a while to do a blown hot rod motor with him for my, after the Fairlane is done, next project. I’ve had a truck 292 squirreled away for a while now.
But good idea for parts.
