About the coolest car ever built! I got to see this icon race at the Ford meet in Columbus about 1980, if I recall correctly. Just like the Hot Rod magazine article, it left 2 black marks down the entire 1/4 mile, smoking the tires the whole way. I think it ran low 9's. F#%@* awesome is the only way to describe it!

I was lucky enough to watch these car's race in the 60's.
As a young teenager it was wild to watch them race and yes all of them smoked the tires the whole 1/4 mile.
Hard to believe it was so long ago.

I saw that car in person, at Jim Barillaro's shop, in about 2005.  The engine setback and the doghouse around the SOHC was really cool.  And no transmission!  Clutch and direct drive.  A real piece of history...

Some of the best times of my life were driving to the local strip, racing my daily driver and lusting after those cars. They still make me happy.
Shirl Greer was a local hero we all tried to hang with.

I saw that car at Detroit. They were organized enough that the starting battery pack was carried in the back of a new Merc station wagon and the driver wore an aluminized suit with a full mask and breathing filters sticking out of both sides. As I remember, it was there to embarrass 'Color Me Gone' soon after that car went to stack injection sticking through the hood. C-M-G had not yet changed to the altered wheelbase. If memory serves, Chrisman's car was sponsored by the LA county Dealer Assn. when it ran at Detroit.

Seems almost like Yesterday.
