Wheel ID
« on: September 06, 2020, 09:28:01 AM »
Not smart enough to post photos so a description will have to do. I have a pair of 15X9 steel wheels with a Ford oval stamped on the hump between the lug nuts. About 5" from mounting face to outside bead. Three lobes for dog dish caps. 4 1/2 X 5 bolt pattern. Got these from a guy who had a lot of old nascar stuff like suspension parts brake drums, shoes things like that. I'm sure Ford never put wheels like this on a production car so could they be some old stockcar wheels? I plan to use these wheels on the back of my 60 Starliner with the small hubcaps.

Dr. John Craft and others have posted info and pictures of the type of NASCAR steel wheels used during the FE era on Facebook quite few times in the past. My understanding is starting in the ‘50’s the teams started using the double center wheels, that had an extra steel center disc welded to the center portion, and then all of that welded to the widened rim. Even the way they are welded has been noted. And my understanding too is they were 5 x 5” bolt pattern for the Fords & Mopars. Here’s a screenshot from one post about the wheels, and a picture in that post that looks like it’s from an old magazine that shows the pieces too. If you’re on Facebook you might want to check the page out.

Definitely not what I have although the depth looks the same from the front view. The centers on the wheels that I have are regular ford 15" passenger car style. Could they be aftermarket wheels from years ago that used Ford centers?
