I was at Indy. the year Pete broke into the 8's with his dragster and the announcement came after two days that Pete had broken into the the 8's (it seems that at the time mathematicians theorized it not possible. Saw this argument in Hod Rod mag. from time to time.

A few years back I had the chance to stop into Don Garlits Drag Racing Museum near Ocala.
There is a Pete Robinson SOHC powered dragster in there. I don’t know if it is a recreation or a campaigned unit.  Cool to see either way.

It's the real dragster (I asked the staff on my visit) although obviously not the one he crashed with the downforce air dam under the engine. I think they said it was the dragster he campaigned the season before the air dam car. Right next to it is Connie Kalitta's SOHC dragster, the one he campaigned I believe quite successfully in 1967.

Btw, next door in the "Engine Room" is a SOHC under plexiglass that has OEM Ford cast iron racing type headers bolted to the heads. I'd never seen any SOHC with the cast units until then, again a very rare item to this day.

Oh yeah,  I had my wife take a pic of me genuflecting at the SOHC shrine. IIRC there is a yellow fan on it. Never saw one of those. Don’t know if it is an aftermarket piece from back in the day or some special Ford unit.
