One piece rear main seal

    The July issue of Camaro Craft, sorry, Car Craft Magazine has a 427 FE build. In the article they show a one piece rear main seal from Roush. Has anyone had experience With this part? And how do they get it over the crank flange?

These are available for a lot of engine families including the 385 series, FE, and even Pontiacs. 

They are a one piece seal, but you have to slice through them with a sharp blade and then work them around the crankshaft.  The crank is then dropped in and the cut goes to the top of the engine.  They work ok, but honestly, I don't have any issues with the two-piece seal halves on FE's.

I've just installed one in my 428.  I've had difficulties with the two-piece on this motor and hoping this is the ticket.  Two gripes about this though...first, you have to get ahold of one guy at Rousch, Jim Kemp to order it....why someone else who picks up the phone cannot sell you one is beyond me.  Second, it's $100.  If it works, I'll be fine with that price.  From what I was told when ordering, this is the only seal they use in their FE builds and they have good results with it.

I looked at them.  The guy who made them first approached me about being the distributor for them.  I thought the price was pretty strong, and it still has a split no matter what.  I didn't pursue it.  I'm sure they will work, but  I don't use them.
