Header Fitment
« on: September 22, 2019, 07:54:54 PM »
Looking for anyone with experience using the Mad Dog #4011 2" primary headers in a  '66/67 Fairlane. I would like to get my headers powdercoated and would like to know they fit without dropping the engine in and mocking it all up. I am running a 4 speed with the factory z bar, scattershield, stock type manual steering with tubular tie rod adjusting sleeves, Global West tubular lower control arms. Is there any massaging needed to make these fit? TIA

I have not used their tubes but upon viewing them on line they look very close to the Crites 2”/3.5” ones I have in my 67. I had mine coated and had to dimple number 7 for the upper part of the steering box corner and to a lesser degree dimple number 8 for the tie rod end. The Crites material is soft. Not sure what those Mad Dogs are made of.

If you want some pics let me know and provide an email address.

No experience with the headers, but the engine looks great, Jared! Not many people have the guts to paint aluminum heads, but it sure keeps the 'stocker' look. I'm on the fence about painting them. Just make sure all the edges are smoothed and rounded off on that dipstick. You sure don't want to be shaving bits of metal off into your oil pan....unless you've fabbed up a wire dipstick, like newer cars have.

I believe Mad Dog makes the headers for Crites.

Thanks Doug! I do have a few dollars invested in the heads, but I don't mind hacking up perfectly fine new parts.  :)
I made the dipstick tube out of brake line and a piece of flat stock for the bracket and welded them together. I did have some interference at first with the dipstick, but gave it a slight curve the opposite way and if I carefully install it, it will end up where it's supposed to.

I thought I may have heard that somewhere, too.

Thanks JB. I may ask later on for pictures, but I may end up mocking it up to be sure. Only want to do this once! Headers will be getting flat white....

And now they are 40 miles north of me!  Where were they previously?
