428 Windage Tray with a Cobra T-sump. Issue?
« on: January 31, 2019, 10:54:45 PM »
Has anyone had an issue with the dipstick not showing the crankcase is full with the factory Windage tray and the T-sump pan?
I have never heard of any issues with the Ford Windage tray causing issues with the dipstick, but I have with the Canton. I have been filling with seven quarts and it still doesn't show it's full. Has anyone else ran into this?

I know I have to be careful about how the stick is aimed as it "could" get above the windage tray and not into the oil.  Might be your problem.  If the stick is straight, put a slight bow in it and carefully feel as you slide it in. Make sure the bow is aimed down so it clears the windage tray.

Mine is an old cast T pan with factory windage tray.

+1 on what Larry said, I usually put a bend in the last 1/2" of the dipstick and make sure it is pointing down and away from the windage tray when I insert the stick into the tube.  I recently did an SOHC with that Cobra pan and 7 quarts showed as full on the stick.

I drilled a 1/2" hole in the screen to work with my Canton pan and accessories, to use with my billet dip stick & tube.
