Opinion on brake rotors for F100
« on: August 01, 2018, 05:47:30 AM »
We had a discussion not long ago about cheap brake rotors and warping.

I am switching my F100 over to a later disk brake front axle and need to replace the rotors.  Prices are all over the place, but in the end, it's not like I can buy Ford original rotors anymore.

I was thinking of using a Raybestos upper grade

However, there are good reviews on the AC stuff, but they are significantly cheaper

Anyone have input or another favorite brand for a pickup?  Not like its towing or a corner carver, but a 4x4 is a little bit more of a pain if I have to take them off and cut them after a season.  Original ones were well beyond saving

I would think even though they are cheaper if the braking system is working ok as far as
sliders calipers and hoses and the rear brakes are working up to par to take some strain off
the fronts than I dont see the problem. Its not like your using some chinese rotor and really
if you drive it and its not pulsing if everything is good I personally havent had a problem. If everything is working

I'm with Stangman , if everything else is good theres usually not a problem with the Chinese ... but on the Emergency vehicle we service ( local Fire department ) I go with the Bosch brand rotor for severe duty application if available and those guys are hard on brakes with a Excursion loaded so heavy my Lift struggle to pick it up

EBC makes 4wd rotors. I’d look there.

I recently put Power Stop rotors on all four corners of my '03 F250 4x4 and our '05 Honda.  Time will tell on the Honda but the front on the Ford has been on there for close to 3 years.  On it, I could get drilled and slotted rotors/pads as a kit for not much more than the factory replacement.  That truck has always been lacking in stopping and immediately with the new hardware it was like a small SUV vs. a log wagon.  So when I did the backs, they got a matching set. It stops very good and no issues as of yet. Probably 12,000 miles on the rear.  Went with the standard stuff on the Honda and no known issues as of yet.  Just my experience.

I went cheap with the ACDelcos, lots of feedback that they are decent and comparable to OEM on the net.  Heck been rowing gears on a 445, and years before that was a 390 with a 100 shot and 36 inch tall tires and the drums were sorta stopping me, so this should be night and day!
