Ford and Dove tunnelwedge. ID differences
« on: April 30, 2018, 10:18:25 AM »
I have noticed several differences in these two intakes after taking a closer inspection of the two. At first I had only been aware of the  port shape in the rear plenum area pointed out by Jay Brown in his book but there are other easily identified differences between the two at a quick glance. There are a few casting differences that can be spotted at a quick glance. Two of the most obvious are that there are reinforcement bosses cast into the center mounting bolt holes on the Dove intake that are missing on the Ford intake. There is also a very noticeable "ridge" cast in on the thermostat bypass boss at the front of the intake that normally has a large T stamped into it. The dove does not have this ridge present. I have also noticed that the ford thermostat opening is the large C5 style/large thermostat whereas the Dove uses a smaller style opening (this may vary on other examples of these to intakes, I am curious of other opinions). The last difference I have noticed is that the cast-in C8AX part number boss in the center plenum crossover in noticeably longer than the Dove reproduction. I just thought some other may find this info useful when shopping for one of these intakes. All of these differences are visable in Jay Browns book Pictures, the casting number takes a magnifying glass for me but still noticeable as different...John
