In the second row of pictures, there's even a pic of a 'first-design' cammer with the plugs coming in from the lower edge of the covers. That was the theoretical best design since it put the plug most in the center and pointed, theoretically, in the right direction. The result was disappointing; resulting in the second design with the plugs in the commonly-seen upper place(s). Made an instant hundred horsepower improvement.

I had the parts for a first design, way back when. Hung them on the garage wall as 'decoration'. Gave them all away when I moved. :-[

Here's a pic of what Ken is referring to:

IIRC, Ford's engineers also re-worked a kind of dog-legged exhaust port at the same time they moved the plugs up top....I think.

I can't imagine what those parts would fetch at an auction, that's the unobtainium of Cammer history. The one good thing about being young, I don't have any of those "I used to own a _______ back in the 60's and sold it, now it's my biggest regret in life" stories. People didn't realize back then the ordinary vehicles of the time would become legendary. Times when old race cars were sold for dirt cheap because teams needed to get rid of their outdated race cars. Cars that today sell for tens of millions.

An acquaintance of mine bought, from the third or fourth owner, the second-design Falcon that was, at first, Dave Lyall's AF/X car. It was a roller and he first intended to put a 351 Windsor motor in it. Then he called me, knowing I had a complete 427 setting in the garage. I told him 'no' because I intended to put it back in my Cougar.

A couple of months later, he called one more time and offered to GIVE it to me---his plans had changed again and he'd only paid about a hundred bucks for it. I told him 'no' because I didn't have a handy place to store it and couldn't make any immediate use of it.

When the big Super Ford swap meet and show was being held in Dearborn at Fairlane a few years later, it showed up with a 427 wedge back in it---The price tag was $300,000.00. :o :'(
