'66 7 Litre mastrer cylinder upgrade
« on: October 26, 2017, 09:39:47 PM »
My '66 7 Litre Galaxie's master cylinder is leaking.  I want to replace it with a dual chamber one.  I have linelock.

Someone must have done this upgrade previously.  Any suggestions?

What Galaxie forums are recommended to look for information about this?

Thanks,

Bob

Not on my 7-Litre, but I did the upgrade on my '66 Country Squire. The Squire needed the power brake booster rebuilt, so on recommendations of the gang on the old FE Forum I sent the booster to Booster Dewey to be rebuilt and asked him for the dual reservoir master cylinder too. I can't say exactly which master they sent, but I was happy, although I'll add that the pedal effort is a bit high, but I can live with it. I'll add too, my Country Squire has power drum brakes, not the power discs of the 7-Litre, so if you decide to ask them you'd have to verify they have the right master.

On my '66 LTD I replaced my master cylinder with one to suit a '67 Galaxie with disc/drum brakes. Was a simple bolt on swap, though I did have to make up one new brake line.

Sounds simple and easy.  Since I have line lock I may not even have to make a new line.

I assume you didn't add the brake warning lamp switch assembly.

Thanks,

Bob

No, didn't add the warning lamp since my '66 didn't have it to start with.

All the Ford MCs use the same mounting pattern.  My Falcon uses a 74 Comet MC, the Mustang I think was a 76 Maverick part.  Even later model 90s Rangers could swap in if you could find the right bore.

For my 65 F-100 I robbed a 73 disc set up but ended up going to a smaller 72 booster. I do not know the bore sizes but your Mercury looks the same as the 65 pickup except the car is missing or has an undrilled pad for the brake light switch. Dual resuvuar master cylinder pickups have the under the dash switch. That maybe an option defending on bore size.

early bronco boosters work well and free up a little room in tight quarters .
