Moved: Scan Tools

well, on a EFI vehicle I'd just hook up a PC with the software needed to tune the ECU if I really wanted to see everything and forget a scan tool. Focusing on engine braking is a bit beyond what a scan tool is designed for IMO. If you really want to see all the information, you need tuning software and ideally an aftermarket ECU.
Actually it is not. You can scroll through and custom select what pid values you want to see with a scan tool. You can see values in number, graphs or scope. This is not a simple code reader. No place for a programmable ECU in general diagnosis and trouble shooting. In an independent repair shop you seldom see the same vehicle in a two weeks time.

Whit my VAG COM soft wear you can do what ever (almost) you wana do whit the different ECU, yeas there is several of them.
A Maxed out Audi A8 has over 20 ECUs inter acting with each other.Taking to a AUIDI technician in Stockholm he told me it coud take 2 days fore there sharpest guys to figure out what a heck there is  going on whit all the different faulty codes.
The trouble is to find out the secrete codes to activate / manipulate/ changing some of them.
Took me a couple of weeks googling to find out how to get VIM (Video in motion) codes to my wife's A6 Audi:The TV shut downs when the car stars moving, With access to the Media ECU codes i decided to limiting VIM to 125 m/ph figuring you might have to pay attention to driving at that speed ;D In Germany where i bought this Audi its against the law to have the car TV function when driving, not so in Sweden ;D

All it takes is a glance away from the road. If peoples lives were a real priority that woud be a world wide feature found in every automobile.

Once a tech gets to the top of the chain and have sharp capable younger coworkers they have the luxury of passing on jobs they do not care for. My personal taste is drivabilty and handling but ultimately I never said can't or pawned off a job because it was too hard. Entertainment and anti thieft systems were like green beans when there was nothing else to eat.
