Did anyone see this engine it was claimed to be a crate engine from California.

It's been on several times in the past year. A few visual clues that don't match the story... if you want to see what a 50 year old crate engine looks like find a picture of the one Bob Perkins sold a few years back...

I know the one you're talking about, I even shared it at one point. It's not a crate engine, or at least a stock one. I have examples of stock SOHC crate engines saved on my computer, as well as stock to wild examples that have been dropped in everything from a Galaxy to a 427 Cobra. This engine winds up in more vehicles than you would think, typically a 60's to early 70's ride though.
