Almost there !
« on: February 28, 2017, 08:26:13 PM »
Got my engine nearly done, just gotta make a decision on the carburetor. AND......figure out how to mount it in my 55 Merc. The Y-block mounts will work, but I don't know where I'm gonna locate clutch linkage for it

FE's in a 55/56 Ford was a common swap way back when. From what I recall you could use the original clutch linkage from the car. Problem was it didn't line up from the frame bracket to the engine bracket. Two ways to make it work. One was to cut and reweld the zbar so it lined up. The other was to turn the yblock engine mounts backwards. Epay and craigslist are the places I look when I'm looking for things like that. Found some 63 Ford clutch linkage I used on my 61 on Epay.

It seems to be relatively common to move clutch linkage attachment points on the frame by using only one of the supplied frame holes and placing an additional one where it falls with the bracket placed on the frame.

I can't give you any specific advice, but in general there are bell housings that have the pivot ball stud on them, and some FE applications used a bracket that bolted to the block that has the ball stud. You may want to look at the different possibilities to juggle the position to where you need it. Some of them mount the ball stud at different heights too. You could use the same idea to fabricate your own bracket as well.
