My crites hood finally arrived tonight!
« on: June 13, 2016, 07:45:21 PM »
The teardrop hood I ordered for my '65 Mustang back in January arrived this evening. So I go up to the freight depot after five months of waiting only to watch the dock guy drop it off his forklift and punch two holes in the box with the forks. AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! Fortunately, nothing was damaged(whew!). I stuck it on the car and I think it will do nicely.  8)

How does it fit?  The Crites fiberglass I got for my Galaxie (hood, trunk lid, bumpers, front fenders) all fit really well; hopefully yours fits well also.  The fiberglass for my Shelby clone, on the other hand, fit poorly.  Seems like its hit and miss on fiberglass parts...

So far it looks pretty good. My big concern was how it matched the curve of the cowl and it matches pretty well. I had bought a used Maier Racing teardrop hood, which is seen in the pictures I have posted, and it was pretty bad. It was almost flat across the cowl and front to back it didn't match the fender lines either. I ultimately decided it was beyond my skill level to repair in a timely manner. I think getting the Crites hood was a good move.

Glad your hood finally arrived and didn't get damaged.

These Crites hoods seem to fit well.  Just started putting the one that had been sitting around for years on the '69 to get rid of some weight.  Still need to cut the holes for the shaker and hood pins and paint the thing. Going to just make the whole thing satin black.

Not sure what it is with forklift guys at freight centers, but I've seen that happen way more times than you'd think would be normal. Glad it didn't get damaged. Are these hoods reinforced so they can be used with regular hood hinges and light springs, or do they require a prop?

Thanks! I can use the regular hood hinges and latch but it will need a hood prop. In their instructions it says "do not use hood springs, the use of hood springs will void our warranty".

Glad your project is coming along Alan. Just to add to the fiberglass discussion - My racing buddy, who is stepping up the performance of his '67 Mustang drag car ( sadly not FE powered ), had to order out a new fiberglass hood. The race car shop, which is also doing the paint and body work, recommended he get a hood from Glastek. They told him they had excellent experience with Glastek quality in the past on other customer cars. He ordered the hood and after a 6 week wait it arrived. The shop opened the crate....and it was for a Fox body Mustang! After a call to Glastek they agreed to expedite an order on a replacement. That hood arrived in about 2 weeks and was correct. The shop told him the quality was excellent, as expected, and required very little prep for paint. None of this stuff ever seems to go smooth though.

Jay, whose Shelby fiberglass did you use? I bought Tony Branda stuff and I have about 20+hr into the back of the car 6-8hr in the side scoops and I haven't started on the front end yet.
I assume it's pretty normal trying to fit this stuff from worn old molds onto almost 50yr old cars.

I'm using special lightweight springs for my fiberglass hood, they may work for you?  (from Branda, supplier of hood)
