More fun questions. Head work (Sorry not FE)
« on: April 12, 2016, 10:20:06 PM »
While I am doing the bodywork on the 'Stang I have considered getting some port work done on the FMS SCJ heads that are on the 521 in my Galaxie(hence the roll bar thing). I guess what I am wondering is since I am only running 1 7/8" headers, will it be worth my while to have this done?

The intake port and valve are the most critical part of the cylinder head combination.  Gains there will improve the output of the engine regardless of the exhaust port and header configuration.  Also, for what its worth my 1000 HP SOHC only uses 2" primary headers; they are stepped to 2-1/8" and then to 2-1/4", but the tubes coming out of the port are 2" OD tubes.  I'm thinking if it was an 800 HP engine, I'd be best off with 1-7/8" tubes like yours.  So I don't think you should let the header tube size stop you from doing some head work.

I'm using 1 7/8" tubes on the dragster - those move a lot of air and are really still a bit big for a 351C at 550 HP.  I just could not see 2" tubes even for a later-to-come 4xx stroker.
