I picked-up my '64 Custom during the first part of Feb of '64. As soon as the weather got warm enough to work on the car, I made sure that the diz was in the ten degree slot and ran the initial up to 18 degrees. I installed a pair of 'dump' pipes direct off the manifolds and played around with the jetting, although I don't remember what I ended up using. I made my own deep pan and used the factory 4.11. And I used a set of M&H 8" Dragsters on the rear. I put spring jacks in the front coils and had the suspension dialed-in. And used a set of Traction-Masters out back. In that configuration I did a best of 13.27 at 107 after driving out to Milan.
It was my daily driver and I took it to Sebring FL for the 12 Hour race. On the trip I got a best of 16 MPG and averaged 11.7 for the trip, driving over 100 MPH as much as possible. I used a 3.50 for highway driving. 3rd gear was good to about 125 MPH which made for an excellent passing gear.
