Hard to find Chevy parts
« on: September 26, 2015, 12:53:12 PM »
Howdy everyone,

I'm prepping to sell a 1974 el camino.  About a year ago my dad was moving a 351C, lost control of it on the engine hoist, and dropped it through the drivers side window and down the outside of the door.  I was able to find original glass and door felt, but I've been skunked finding an outside mirror for it.  Its a chrome, manual type, not the adjustable or body color 'bullet' type.

I've tried all the pick-n-pulls in northern California and they simply dont have anything that old anymore (although maybe there is hope in Redding, 2 hours away).  None of the wrecker yards or local Chevy parts stores have anything, nor does the El Camino store or OPGI.  If anybody knows of an independent parts shop or wrecking yard that has older cars still, could you help me out and leave a note here?

FYI, here are a few shots of the old elky.

Thanks for the idea!  I bought that one from Rock Auto on a whim and it should be at the house in a few days.  Cosmetically, it is different, the opposite side of cylinder portion that the mirror pivot attaches to is concave, where the 74 protrudes out.  If it fits, that'll be good enough!

I'd really like to find a chrome one that is 'right' for the car though.

FElony I found it after all!  I had to search for a 1973 Chevelle, but sure enough, they re-pop'd those and its the same mirror.

Koolness. I figured, as inexpensive as the ones I found are, you could buy a right side and have matching mirrors. Not sure anyone buying that year of an El Camino would notice or care. Glad you got what you wanted.

I thought the last year they built an elky was 72, you know, just like the last year for the corvette was 62. Man, I gotsto get more open minded.
