Ford '84 T-19 to an FE Bell Housing?
« on: August 30, 2015, 04:20:52 PM »
I actually started this year thinking about swapping out the NP-435 for a T-19 but decided a cam swap would be a cheaper project. I'm now $12k into a 445 build, so you could say my intentions and outcome didn't align!

I am still thinking that a T-19 would be a good swap (if I ever get the parts to complete my 445). Full syncro on all 4 gears plus first gear ratio of 4.02 to 1.

I know I'll need a new transfer case and cross members, but first things first, is there any reason the Ford T-19 from an early '80s F250 diesel won't mate up to the FE?

Thanks Howie. I have a quote from them for a T-19 and a Dana 21 that I was considering before I decided to go with a cam replacement earlier this year. It is ironic that I decided not to go with the tranny/t-case project because at $3,500 it was a bit steep. I'm $12,000 into the engine at this point, so it didn't exactly work out as planned.

I think Ford used common outputs across the years, but I'm not sure that an early '80s 6.9 diesel tranny will mate up to a 390. I don't know how many splines were used, relative lengths of the shafts, that sort of stuff. I think it will work but would like an expert, and I can't ask Novak since I'm not buying it from them.

I can't say for certain as I don't have one in the shop
but me thinks the Ford T19 sticks out 6 1/2".
