It has the original bucket seats w/o headrests. From the factory it came with lap belts only..  In the interest of my safety I want to install a 4-point seat belt system, lets say I believe I need a 4-point?..... If so years ago I read the upper belt mounting point locations are critical to enable the belts to function properly - if to low I understood the belts can potentially compress the spine in an accident......
If that's true I need a cross bar to locate the upper seat belt mounts at the proper height..... (what height?) Can the lack of headrests be addressed with/on the roll bar?...
I'm considering just leaving the fold-down back seat down full time FWIW.
Anyone ever been there, done this and have info/details they can share?.............

The early Mustangs suck as far a crash protection, this seat belt system will be utilized where ever the cars driven.

The easy way is to use the crossbar and loop the shoulder belts around the crossbar.
They look kool and all that, but they can be a bit much for just a cruiser.
To be honest, I take the door bars out and just use the lap belts when
setup for street duty.
You can fit a pretty nice modern 3 point in without much effort.
Which is way more comfortable. imo

I have the 4 point belts and cross bar in the 67 T/A replica because it should have it.There is no back seat and even if there was there is no way to get in there that is comfortable..
The belts are a pain in the ass.
The 68 just uses 3" lap belts and I am just fine with it.I also have headrests...
Your 67 has non locking seats..I don't care what belts you have mounted in it...if you get rear ended you are going to get hurt and headrests wont help..Getting hit headon wont help as you don't have a collapsible steering column..I don't worry about it..Driving these cars is supposed to be fun..

Two years ago I got hit head on at freeway speed.I flipped the truck 2 or 3 times and landed on my side in a ravine...I was busted up bad and cut up bad.I had no air bag...He was hardly injured at all.He was killed instantly and he had a brand new truck with air bags..So much for safety equipment.

I agree with the roll bar.Just put belts in it that you are comfortable with.Dont destroy your deluxe seats with headrests..
I just strap myself in tight and have fun..As I have found out......shit happens and there is nothing you can do about it..

Re:"Getting hit head-on wont help as you don't have a collapsible steering column"

Exactly why I'm concerned about being restrained/held away from the javelin/steering column.  Ironically the only friend I lost in high-school died by being impaled in the chest on his Camaro's steering wheel.

The 3-point belt does kind of make a lot of sense with comfort and ease so I will look into it. BTW I do have a spare 67 drivers seat that had been welded for NHRA use. (locked) My 67s a very striped model: No PS/PB, no deluxe anything and not a GT. Just S-code 4spd w/fact Tach.

For some reason I thought your 67 was a deluxe interior car..You could put the 68/69 steering column in as its a collapsible one but if your 67 is a early one it still uses the one pc box/column...You would have to change the box as well..

A 67 seat kit could probably be put on 68/69 seats and you would have seat locks and the right upholstery.
68's came with(option)a shoulder harness that would give you 3pnt.I have simpson 3" belts in both my cars...
At least my Mustangs have seat belts..My prewar stuff has nothing...

I still dirt bike and I tend to do extreme endure stuff...It doesn't matter how much body armour I wear..That rock the bike in front  me just spit at me will hit me where there is no padding..

Mines a late July build 67 and has the same steering box as later models. Years ago I scored a 67 tilt from junk-yard but did not get the allied vac can or any special elecs out of car because I did not know. Don't think I'll use tilt because 16"1, big rubber and non-P/S is a lot on the tilt joint.  My friend had his Shelby's tilt crunched when a body shop guy pushed/steered his car by the wheel.  I have a new Flaming River box. Can't imagine sticking in a later column because it will look like a later column big-time won't it?.....

Don't think much of the steering shaft being shoved up in crash since it's buried beside a big hunk of FE, but keeping myself from being thrown on top of s-wheel/shaft in crash is certainly a concern..

I believe the install of a 3-point harness would be acceptable IF I could have the dam thing be free of any form of ratcheting.  If your going to "play" with a car, inertia belts are useless as tits-on-a-bull.

 Are Mustang original/repop  3 point FoMoCo belt's inertia/ratcheting?

I have tilt in my 68(its a 67 column) and everything works.I have the stock vacumn can and ign bypass harness. The rest I had to make.I found a suitable solenoid and the correct door switch..It has worked flawlessly for 30 years. It holds vacumn for around 2 weeks.I have it attached to a quick ratio manual box and usually have good size tires..It has survived just fine..Tilt columns also require a special rag joint.

The factory shoulder belts are just loose belts,no inertia. You have to run double latch belts tho as its a separate system. There are stainless wire clips on the roof rail to tuck the belts away...I took mine back out as up here if you have a shoulder belt you "have" to wear it..

After my first trip to the ECTA event at Maxton, NC, I decided to get serious. For the speed I achieved, the requirement was at least a four-point bar set. I decided to exceed the minimums and had a custom full cage put in, it's probably the only Lincoln LS in the country with such an installation. The shoulder bar in the main hoop has attachment points for the upper belts. I installed a six-strap set-up from Simpson with a center latch and double submarine belts that come from under my thighs and therefore don't compromise 'The Legisibles'.

Impressed by my new toys, I used the new belt system for several weeks before realizing that I had a factory system that'd work just fine for everyday use. (In competition, getting the entire safety rig properly in place and tight is awkward enough to make help from my crew chief very welcome.)

The factory system has no ratchet action discernible, but is hooked up to some sort of electrically operated one-way-clutch. Normal movement while driving down the street is easy but locks up when the brakes are applied.

Conclusion: A competition belt set-up is a PIA for daily use.

It's good to hear you thinking about upgrades to your Stang BB.
Is it moving along now with your plan?
There are many really nice high performance 3 point belts that
will bolt right in to your car.
I did both my Stang and Fairlane  and used modern quick lock styles.
When I changed direction of course more belts where required. :P
If your really going to toss it around, get some really nice hold you in place
seats. They will do more for you to keep you position.
The Scat seat really looks like it is made for a high performance Fastback. :D

I had a PaceCar Mustang w/Recaro's, Ive got a Nissan Z so I'm no stranger to great seats. I picked up a spare set of Gen 1 Lightning seats (I own a Lightning) which have air adj bladders in the bolsters and lumbar - my intention was to have the set of spare Lightning seats covered to resemble Mustang buckets (hell if they make a truck ride comfy they ought to tame a Mustang) but I'm to much of a purest now I believe if I can snug myself down in the stock seats w/ a bit of extra padding I should be fine for some limited track play...
