Fairlane listing on Ebay- not mine
« on: August 02, 2015, 03:52:04 PM »
I am a little confused why the starting price and buy-it-now price are both $75,000. ??? Who would make a bid on it, that would be stupid. It does have some decent parts including the hard to find back up delete taillight lenses. I think the starting price is a little steep.

Yeah, the door tag seems to be a fantasy thing.  Woulda been cool IF Ford had actually made a R-code 427 425hp Fairlane GT, but we all know there wasn't one made.  Isn't it a little bit of fraud to change the VIN to something that you wish had been made?  I don't like the taillights or 427 emblems, but beside that, there's a lot to like about that car.

Nice job, but still pretty pricey!  Howie, it does say the door and engine tags were made for the car; so the owner's not saying it's an original R-Code.

He can say what ever he wants, but it is ILEGAL to alter a Vehicle Identification Number in anyway
ANYWHERE in North America. Most likely anywhere in the world.
That is exactly what the owner has done.
Shame on anyone who condones such action.
This is exactly how fakes are created.
Over time and a paper trail that follows it.
I believe it also hurts real cars in the long run.

Rear end on that thing looks like it was powder coated.

A lot of questionable things on this car, that's for sure. It is "supposed" to be an R code, but I see a radio and clock in the dash, and Cragar S/S wheels. Also, they used a 67 trunk emblem, maybe to fit the "427" numbers in it? ::) The grill emblem also has the 427 numbers that never existed. A very clean car, but a lot of things don't add up.

Howie, point taken.  Besides being illegal and even though this owner doesn't claim the door tag is original, subsequent owners could do so.  Fortunately there are several other places besides the door tag where the original VIN is stamped.

I am pretty sure that the door tag is not the official VIN number on the car, it has to be stamped on the body. If you go to have the car inspected, they will usually look at the body VIN, not the door tag. That is also what makes it legal for Marti to sell replacements with whatever numbers you want on it. I doubt it uses that VIN for registration.

Very nice car, but definitely over priced.

Don't know if Kevin Marti will make a fake tag..I actually doubt he would.. but other people will..
That being said I agree with the above post...The tag is not legal for anything to do with registration but we all know it matters..

I do not agree with nor do I like "fake" tags

I wouldn't be surprised if the owner had more than $75K invested in the car, or more depending on how much was farmed out.
