Uncle Sam's unloading HumVee's @$10,000 opening bid
« on: December 15, 2014, 09:12:22 PM »
Before GM bought Hummer from AM General we had a local company that was dropping 502 marine racing BB Chevy's in them and really doing a clean swap with all sorts of customization.
Dropping a serious HP motor in them brings on a whole new ballgame.

stumbled on this one with 1,950 miles on it.

They are awfully vague on their inspection process. :o A buddy told me those 6.2's  (naturally aspirated) wouldn't get out of their own way. It would be kinda cool to own one though.

Would be cool to own a real Hummer but there choice of engines in the first series was very bad...Those GM diesels are not what you would call a "good" engine...Gutless POS comes to mind....JMO
1968 Mustang Fastback...427 MR 5spd (owned since 1977)
1967 Mustang coupe...Trans Am replica
1936 Diamond T 212BD
1990 Grizzly pick-up

Yeah the Oldsmobile diesel was a real chicken abortion. Most civilian versions were converted to a Duramax later or a gas engine. Even the military quickly discovered the limitations of the engine and many were upgraded as they failed. I have had the job of changing out many Olds engines to something that was actually a usable engine rather than a fuel guzzling, sputtering dog.

I'm really surprised it has a 6.2  The military swapped most out for the 6.5 some years back.  I remember we could buy a whole drop in 6.2 for under $400 back then.  Cheaper if you could buy a semi load of them.
You *can* hop them up a little bit, but really it isn't worth the time and energy to get to any real power, plus Stanadyne/RoosaMaster pumps can only put out so much fuel.

Make sure you notice, "no title, off road only"

Might be hard to register unless you have farm plates or another way to get around it

With no title it is rather useless, even farm plates will not work in Illinois.
