just a thought on the possabilty of a header adapter?
« on: November 29, 2014, 06:19:10 PM »
I have seen header adapters that allow raised ports to be machined and different headers to be mounted on cylinder heads. Are their any such products for the FE heads? Of what headers would be a close fit to make it happen, are the Cleaveland or 385 heads close? It would be nice to have some expanded options exhaust wise without building your own set of tubes. Another thought I had is maybe cutting the flange off a header that is close in fit and welding a new 3/8 flange on. I have already bought a set of Doug's but after sizing things up I am not to confident they are going to fit my project so I am looking into other options. Really I need a 1 7/8 - 2" primary with a 3" collector to optimize things but custom seems my only option at this point. My frame rails are narrow at about 30 inches and things are gonna be tight, I definitely want a tuned full length header though instead of a block hugger or shorty. I can't use a hot rod header due to my Mustang II front end. Any thoughts on a slick solution? There are conversion headers to install a 302 in my truck but that is about it, I had considered fenderwell exit Cobra headers but it would seem a little wild for a street sleeper LOL. Thanks Jon

a friend used a BBC shorty header on his 390 Falcon, and only had to tweak 1 tube per side, i will see if i can find the picture

I would have never guessed it would be that close. There sure are a lot of options there.
