61 galaxie front suspension
« on: April 10, 2014, 07:41:30 AM »
Does anyone make an aftermarket setup that works nicely...  i'm doing the ridetech coilovers on all  4 corners with their triangulated 4 link rear.

Does anyone make control arms/ sway bars that could tighten her up some?

Thank you,

Bill

Not that I have seen.  FYI, you may or may not be aware, but when you install any coilover/bagover setup on that front end, make damn sure you reinforce that lower control arm and I'd personally reinforce the upper mount as well.   Read through this whole thread if you haven't seen it already: http://www.fordmuscleforums.com/galaxie-pages/511889-ridetech-air-suspension.html

A source for the sort of items you are considering---not often thought of by 'our' end of hot-rodding---is to look to those who provide parts for circle-track.

Crunching of suspension components is so common that A-arms are thought-of as throw-aways. They're available in a plethora of dimensions and, due to their expected life-times, are quite inexpensive. And they're both strong and lightweight.

From the same sort of source you'll be able to find sway-bars that make use of bolt-on end-arms in various configurations and lengths. The bars, themselves, are of various lengths and diameters and are even available gun-drilled.

Swaybar wise, Quickor Suspension does make an improved sway bar for the front end of a '61 that is 1" diameter.  OEM size is 7/8 on wagons and I think slightly smaller on all others.  I have their rear 7/8" bar on my '62 wagon and it works quite well and will be upgrading my front bar to

Nice... thanks for the info... i'll get some steel and start working on that now till i build the lower arms.

pretty good with a tig (250 amp)  so i may make my own arms and make a cap for the top.

I was pretty sure a shock mount wouldn't hold the full brunt of a coil over anyway.

What size ball joint do i need for the factory spindles.
