fuel pump
« on: February 17, 2014, 09:54:49 AM »
Ok I`m sure this has been talked about a million times but I`ll ask the million and first. I need to get a new fuel pump and I`m torn between the carter 6905 or the edelbrock 1724. The car has a fuel cell and new 3/8th steel line all the way up to the pump. What is the better pump in the opinion of you guys runnin these two companys. I allways ran the Carters on my sbf`s but they were the super speedway ones that had 172gph and the 10an inlet and 8an outlet. The carter 6905 is only 1/4 inch? I was thinking if it has enough meat I could drill and rettap to 3/8th. As allways thank you for any help

The 1/4" NPT is about 7/16" or about 0.437 out side and "most" fittings have a bore around 0.380 " plus.
Your 3/8" thin wall tube has an id of about 0.305" so the tube is actually smaller than the fitting.

I've used the Carter on a few of my cars, never a problem. I run race gas though so no experience with how it would stand up to ethanol if it's in your fuel. I use 3/8 line from the tank and I think it would support up to 500 hp. If you're making more might want to check out Robb Mc. He has mechanical pumps good for much more, probably what I'll look at next time. No experience with the Edelbrock.

Ok so here is my finding I looked very closely at both the Edelbrock and the Carter. They are the same pump just the one is polished and has the inlet and outlet drilled and tapped bigger besides that they are the same you can even see where they milled the word Carter off the side before it was polished. So if you really wanted to you could take the Carter apart and drill it out and retap it. I just went with the Ebrock for the 20 bucks diff.

Do you guys know who makes the Holley pump?
I'm assuming it's made by someone else.
Sorry if I'm hijacking.
