FE headers
« on: February 05, 2014, 08:25:26 PM »
OK first of many ???s. I`ve been searching the old interweb trying to find headers for my 1954 crestline with a FE swap and have come up with no concrete answers. The log manifolds I have on it now work with it to drive but I know headers will help alot. Specially after my cam and intake swap thats coming in a few weeks. Anybody done this swap and what headers did you use? Thanks for any help on this  :)

We swapped a 390 in my buddies 53 custom line several years back. As I recall header fitment was tight. He just ran manifolds but I have a set of shorties that looked like they would drop right in. They are made by rod works. They look a lot like the sanderson shorties. The performance won't be like a race header but will easily beat a manifold. As you found out selection isn't very good.

FPA shorty headers. Call Stan Johnson and talk to him about what you got.

I've got a set of Mad Dog long tube headers on my 63 Galaxie. If it weren't so much work them suckers would be traded for a set of shorty headers  tomorrow. What the hell was I thinking. They are nice headers, don't leak and look good. I'm just tired of raising my ass off the seat every time I go across a bump in the road.

They'll support 400hp easily enough. You might lose a bit compared to long tubes, but unless you're counting tenths at the strip, you'll never notice. Just stay with at least a 2 1/2" pipe and they'll breathe good.

Believe me, after my experience with him, I figure you'll be happy too. They are expensive though.

I have the FPA's on my 59 T-bird. They are the ONLY place that makes a set of shorties that would fit the car. I'm super happy with the quality and the fit, even at $650.
