Another starter question
« on: December 18, 2025, 05:33:19 PM »
I have a starter I bought off a guy who said it works. It looks fairly new and unused. However, I gave it a bench test. Good battery 13.6v, jumper cables and I hooked them up and nothing.I took it apart but didn’t see anything out of order. But then again, what am I looking for? How do I diagnose the issue and does applying directly from the battery equate to a good bench test? Thanks!

Theres not much to a starter. Is it one with a solenoid? Bypass the solenoid is one testing option. If you took it apart does it have brushes? Check continuity with a meter. Not much else I can suggest without more info.

Took it to the local Starter/Alternator shop and had it tested. It stuck at first but wroked well after a few tries. They opened it up and said looks good, run it.
