aftermarket Ford Windsor blocks?
« on: May 21, 2013, 11:53:35 AM »
Gotta question if anyone has experience in  aftermarket 351 Windsor blocks? I am looking at the dart Iron Eagle vs the  World Manowar blocks, the walls are a little thicker on the world and it costs a lot less. The Dart has billet steel caps and modified oiling along with splayed cap bolts on the center mains.  Just was wondering which would be a hood choice for say about 12 psi boost and 6500 rpm?........Thanks Jon
BTW Barry has the heads for the 445, still no T&D race rockers yet. May have to go another route like Harland & Sharp? Any suggestions there? I need a set to handle high seat pressure and the long haul. Durability and dependability is the big factor .......Thanks again Jon

Either should handle that amount of boost, since I ran 14PSI in a stroker 351W with 1970 block.  I have the Dart block, and it is excellent as machined from the factory.  I have not personally worked with the Man O War block, but have heard good things about it.  The Dart should handle upwards of 25 PSI without any ill affects if you get the block with all 5 of the mains that have 4 bolts.  Joe-JDC.

That is the one I was looking at  Joe, it says on their site it has splayed center four bolt caps with one and five strait four bolt. The manowar is like a traditional small block Chevy with strait four bolt centers and two bolt ends. Also only small mains. Either are capable of about 460ci displacement. One big difference is the oil system on the Dart is much more advanced with priority main oiling and many options for valve train and dry sump. With the added goodies I would guess that explains the big price gap. I wonder if a Manowar would suffice as the engine will see lower RPM and have plenty of cooling. I was thinking around 7:1 compression. And about 455ci......Jon

The MOW block should handle that quite easily.  They are supposed to still be useable at 4.200" bore, so I would consider it if the price is right.  I have 2 Dart blocks, and I really like them, one a 427, and I am planning a 445 with the other.  Joe-JDC.
