Question for Jay
« on: April 03, 2013, 07:46:44 PM »
Since I've been so hung up on calculating DCR's lately, I went through your book and calculated your dyno mules. I had to make a few assumptions but I think I'm close. Most came in close to 8, +/- .2. Except for the 427 sideoiler, it was around 7.12. What did I miss?

You didn't miss anything.  The 427 Sideoiler had a lower DCR because the static compression ratio was limited by the Engine Masters rules.  In other words, short block's compression ratio wasn't designed to be used with the heads and cam I used on the engine, so the DCR just came out low.  It would have probably picked up some power if the static compression ratio was a point or so higher.  I could have gone smaller with the cam to keep the DCR up, but I felt that I would pick up more power using the bigger cam than I would lose by having the lower DCR.
