Wouldn't the truck be a 4x4? I know the divorced Transfer case 4x4 trucks 3/4 used this part, mine is aluminum-1975.  Thought 4x2 trucks had the long tail shaft.  Just for clarity.
I know some early cars used a short cast housing too but not thinking that late in the run based on your year i.d.

This is the C6 out of a 1971 F250 Short Cast Iron tail shaft.

I removed this from the truck last year and I'm holding on to it as I may need the main case.
