Intake seal gone?

Have some smoke at idle and going down the road so figured better check the backside of the intakes. A little back story is in order.
 Had an over rev at the track last year when my face plated toploader left third gear and went into a lower gear. ( never did learn what happened but that trans is out of car). The guide seals look intact via peering through the beehives. I’m getting ready to pull the intake next. The seal on the intake was a slight worry when the engine went together. There is a significant mismatch on the tunnel wedge ports with Barry’s CNC heads. Not much “beef” to seal to. The builder made a sandwich of TA-31 and Felpro 1247 SE gaskets. I wonder if the over rev blew out the seal?

Could be either valve seals or the intake.  Hard to tell from a picture, but unless you bathe the top end with oil, smoke from valve seals tends to clear up pretty quickly. 

I'd likely be looking at the intake first, but if using white teflon instead of Viton valve seals, I'd likely swap valve seals and check spring pressures at the same time.  Been finding beehives can be all over the place in terms of pressure, bind, etc

Positive style seals. I’m still looking for a smashed one. IIRC the springs were set up .090 from cool bind. Considering that a retainer could have come in contact with a seal during over rev.

Cannot see any dicey seals. No loose seal springs or seals off guides. Number 8 has a small oil lake. Could a bad intake gasket or valve guide seal add up to such a lake or should I looking at a leak down and/or compression test?

Have not look at an installed valve seal that close up before,but it looks a bit beat up to me.

Just because there’s a pool there doesn’t mean it’s oil.  Sometimes when you shut them down they will pull fuel down and it will puddle on a valve.

Could have been on install.

Different Viton seals from different manufacturers will fit differently.  I use a lot of Manley valve seals because I can shove them on instead of beating them on.  It just looks like his were driven on.

Brent, I moved number 8 around to collect a sample of the liquid but it is gone. I don’t know if that speaks to it being fuel.

That rough looking seal is the only one I could find that presents that way. However, I could pull all the springs and get a better look. Was waiting to learn if I should be testing integrity of cylinders first.
