FE Technical Forum / Re: What is your engine prep for a long sitting engine?
« Last post by Heo on April 19, 2024, 04:14:45 PM »
I can tell you a story about an engine sitting for 5-6 years if i remember right.
I have a female friend that did a beautyful restoration of a 67 Camaro RS SS
Full rebuilt 327 never started for 5-6 years since rebuild stored in heated garage
She gave me a call and asked if i could come by. They had some problem adjusting
the valves after they had broke in the cam
I Went there and found out it was solid lifters on a hydraulic cam! Kit from Comp Cams ???
So she removed the intake to change lifters, the liftervalley was covered in real coarse rust,
the oil was full with rustflakes like a coarse sand, oilpump was shot the bearings was junk
That was an engine never started before the camebreak in so probably was no oilcoat inside
But stored in a garage with 20 degres celsius the whole time,no water in the cooling system
So i would atleast lift the intake and have a look

I'm not sure were this 9 O clock thing is coming from.
This is a 66 cast Z bell and a Lakewood.
I would say 8 O clock is correct.

Good to see Summit step up and do the right thing  :)

We - collectively as a consumer group - have done this to ourselves.

In this entire thread, this is the message that needs to be understood, and then acted upon by this very group.   ;)

Expecting that we as a society can continue in our current purchasing practices, assuming that someone else should shoulder the responsibility to fix everything gong awry, whether that be the Business/Retailer, or the Courts, or then even Government, is misguided, irresponsible, and the very behavior that these unscrupulous vendors, manufactures and even Countries, count on; which unfortunately seems to scratch the itch that American consumers sadly seem to respond to.   :(

Didn't your parents teach you anything!   >:(

Took the driveshaft to my local driveline guy. He rebalanced and straightened the driveshaft, had a small amount of runout. That fixed the vibration

So glad there are still some guys like him around, we're screwed when they are all gone..

FE Technical Forum / Re: 69 F250 Highboy 460 Engine Swap from FE
« Last post by RustyCrankshaft on April 18, 2024, 05:29:21 PM »
All you really need to mount the engine is a set of motor mounts. The L&L ones fit nice but are expensive, there are some other options. Since it's a 4x4 you will obviously need a 460 with a rear sump pan. The several I've done I used a stock 90's F250 4x4 pan and it fit fine. I would recommend the "Dezert Cooler" radiator, but the core support mounting flange for the rad is different and you may not want to go through the effort to swap. The FE rad (all 3 core sizes) will work and most of the time (depending on what year accessory drives you're using on the 460) the rad hoses for a 2wd factory 460 dentside usually work.

Generally a pretty easy swap, but you can make it as complicated as you'd like.

Almost impossible to find, but you can also use the 2wd frame stands off a factory 460 truck to do the conversion.
