lovehamr that is exactly the pronlem I had.

In your spline to bearing shot is that a bearing or bushing?

Are you running an after market crank as I am?

Like I said on my crank I could use a 5.0 pilot bearing in a deeper recess in my crank.

drdano even with the correct depth bell the pilot may need to be shortened,Ford did this on the big block top loader 4 speeds.

302
Make sure the standard length input does not bottom the splines to the pilot bearing.

I may have some input...
I have a TKO 600,long input. Matching Quick Time bell and a (SCAT)? cranked stroker from Barry.

When the trans was installed it too would lock up.
I don't know if the pilot seat area was not machined deep enough, the crank flange too far back or some other problem with tallerence stack up.

The spline area of the input shaft would bottom onto the pilot bearing/bushing.

A Pilot BEARING for an FE was the worst, a Pilot BUSHING also would not work.
The interference seemed to be about -.1-.2".

Now here the interesting fix I used.
If your using a SCAT crank, other aftermarket cranks may be the same.
In the pilot area machined in the end of the crank it is machined in steps, the outer where a pilot Bear./Bush would normally seat,a second area below then a deeper area with a triangle/cone look.
I found the second machined area below the pilot area was a perfect fit for a 5.0 Mustang stock roller pilot BEARING,that bearing even has a flange that seats on the (normal) pilot bush.  seat area and holds the 5.0 Bear.  proud about .2". When the trans was mocked into place the grease on the bearing left a mark stopping about .2" from the trans spline and the trans now rotated freely.

It's held to gether for 9000 miles so it must be working.

Now I see you are short on engagement and are using a short input, did the short bell/short input bind? Maybe you had the same problem I did with the crank?

Jay when was the last time you had 4 Hot Rods running at the same time. I'm assuming the GT still runs.

Jay understand I know little to nothing.....
Would running 2 different length stacks maybe flatten the torque curve?
My Sprint Car racing cousin does that on a slick track with a SBC says it widens the torque curve.

I believe you'll find that the 'two different stack lengths' phenomenon you sometimes see on a BBC is due to the 'good' and 'bad' intake runners that are found on the 'rat' motor. However, some NASCAR engine builders have experimented with different (calculated) lengths on their headers---with good results---and it might well be that multiple stack lengths would offer similar results!

KS

I knew that about BBC, this is a SBC I have no clue power wise what it does but it "softens" the hit to the tires so it laps faster on slick tracks.

Could the power loss have come from the cumbustion pressure being lost down the sleaves to the crankcase? If so wouldn't/couldn't that "float" the sleaves in the bore?

Is it posible the valves were "lofting" over the nose? That would seem to mess up static P-V clearence.

With the carbon build up over the "relief's" it may have happened on the last run, weak springs?

Jay I'll start with this...I'm not a painter.

I did all the prep work and bought the paint for my Mustang.
When it came time for color I spoke with the guy who would be holding the gun about what products to use and his preferred paint supplier.
What I learned was paint is now a system from the bare surface up.
The color on my car is a Subaru color called Blue Effect. It is a semi transparent, candy like,in the application instructions it calls out the shade of primer/sealure from a scale of 1-5 and how many Full color coats to lay down to get a match to the sample. In my case we used #5 surfacer and 3 Full coats.
The car was painted in pieces with the fender end caps and headlight extension done last, well we ran low on paint,or I should say the painter did. When the light hits my right rear fender extention just so it has a green hue.Under inside lighting you cant tell but outside it gets a little trick to it...That extension only had 2 coats,he ran out of paint 1 piece short. I would have had to buy another full qt. but I let it go.

I also learned that to get the closest match to the paint chips you have to use the manufactures "better" product lines.

IIRC Omni is a lower end DuPont or PPG line.

In the end you will most likely have to do test sprays to be 100% sure on the color. If you do go that way make sure you use the correct tone of sealer under it.

Jay my brain just flashed.....or farted.
Is it posible that trigger wheel is magnatized?

With the "wisky" or mag compass' on mostly T38's and some T37's I've worked for no apparent reason the windscreens would become magnatized. For us it would pull the compass off some 10* at some heading but read right on at others.
We had a local manufactored coil that ran off 110vac(!) wrapped around a 5lbs iron ring we used to De Gaze the suspect area. The thing made the BEST magnetic screwdrivers ever!
A few waves of that thing and a flick of the on/off switch and all was well.

Call Precision Oil Pumps,I think he made the FPP pieces.

I was going to post something along the line of go back to basics and break the problem down into little pieces,but....

Is it possible to test the crank sensor without any input from the CPU? That said I think you have just about beat the bad crank sensor to death. Is it possible the crank sensor wiring is picking up EMI on the way to the CPU? Or for that mater EMI in general?
Can You test and log with the ignition disabled?

How about something that's at this point is just dumb to ask,but here goes...
Are all the grounds in the engine management system terminated in the same place? Ground offsets can be hell.
