FE Technical Forum / FE Intake trimming
« on: May 30, 2018, 09:23:12 PM »
I have an RPM intake that I have been running for several years. I did not trim or fit it and the valve cover gap has always leaked.
So being the engine is out anyway (broken cam ) I had the block zero decked as well as a fresh valve job and bearings. The new Hyd roller required new springs etc... might as well's right?

So the heads are bolted down and I set the intake in place. Bent the head gaskets  down to clear.

I centered it up with the distributor and got pretty much the same fit I had before using the old crushed gaskets.
I then dry fit it with no gaskets, the right side sits .060" below the head valve cover deck, the left side is dead flush.
With the gaskets installed the right is so close I dont want to mess with it. The left side looks to need a .060" cut.
The china walls are within .010 of being the same all around.

Bolt hole fit matches what would be expected, right side being low with no gasket is a drag fit, left side thread in no problem, add the used gaskets and the results switch.

So am I asking for trouble having .060" cut from only one side of the intake?

Im open to any suggestions or tips.

FE Technical Forum / Non-Adjustable rocker questions
« on: May 06, 2018, 09:40:20 AM »
I'm rebuilding my stroked FE with a Hyd Roller from Brent and have decided to go non adjustable rockers on it.

The cam is just under .600 lift and requires 160lbs on seat.

I've been on the look out for stock rockers for a few months now (after scraping them for years) . I find many of them to have good valve tip surfaces but no internal groove. Then others have the groove but noticeable wear on the valve tip end.

So does a good rocker need the groove?

The lack of tip wear seems like a no brainier but the number of good tips with no groove in my small collection  has me questioning the groove.

Does a roller cam engine require special break in oil?

I putting my  433in FE back together (broke the cam at the #4 cam bearing) with a hyd. roller cam set up,while it was apart I re ringed and bearing it .I have always run 20w50 Valvoline is there some guide for what weight oil to run? Main Bearing clearance is .003". It uses Chevy crank journals.
How does oil weight requirement relate to bearing clearance, more detail than wider = heavier please if you can.

Really some basic questions from somebody that should know, but I have just fallen into just run 20w50,might  40wt or even 30wt be better? Does anybody know?

Thank You.

FE Technical Forum / 9in Ford Daytona Pinion Measurements

I'm piecing together a new(ish) chunk for my Mustang using a Daytona Bearing retainer. Does anybody have the dimensions for modifying a standard yoke for Daytona bearing use?
For some reason it must be the biggest secrete on the web because Google is no help.

Thanks allot Jay. :)
I went to our local once a year "good swapmeet nobody knows about"
SM with a worn out 600 Holley $200!

But I did sell one for $150. ;)

Do I have to send you a cut? I bought a book, will that cover it?

BTW I swapped from a SM to RPM the low end carb tuning and cruise,2000rpm ish, became much less touchy and the mixture became more stable according to my LC1 O2 indicator...
