FE Technical Forum / Re: 66 Galaxie Rack and Pinion Conversion
« on: August 03, 2023, 11:33:44 PM »
I just put a EPAS in my 67 Mustang as its QR manual and its getting tiring. The car is a 67 Replica of the T/A cars so a pump under the hood or rack was not a option. It was a bit of work and is only visible if you bend down.No issues with the clutch pedal.20 years ago I put a complete TCP suspension in a 69 Mustang SCJ..Mustangs are rear steer and absolutely hated the way the rack and tie rods were done.I have also recently done a Borgeson conversion to a 68 Mustang..Other than the ugly eaton pump it was good..System will work with a Ford pump.Box ratio is good..

FE Technical Forum / Re: Duraspark, need a resistor or not?
« on: July 24, 2023, 12:24:00 AM »
Thats not the question Tom...Question is does it need a resistor..I dont run that harness as i run mechanical gauges and dont need the wires hanging around.I wire my Duraspark to the run side of the solenoid and unplug the harness. All my builds have monte carlo bars so i run the wire behind that. The question is...Does it need a resistor ????

I dont think the dist or the box have a issue with the 12 Volts..Most of the schematics are based on OEM applications using a OEM coil.OEM coils don't like to run on 12 Volts.I have never had a problem with duraspark and all the conversions i have done but i dont run a OEM coil.I use MSD coils.MSD says there stuff is 12 Volt friendly...Just a thought.....Cory

I have always run my Duraspark conversions on 12V.I have never had a problem with any of them.I always use the blue strain box.The last one I did the owner supplied a painless wireing harness...It came with a resistor. My 68 has been duraspark since Ford Motorsports introduced the conversion harness in the early 80's.Both my small block and later the 427 used it and both engines would cleanly run past 6000rpm..I too have always wondered about the resistor and have never found a good answer...

Not sure on the 65/66 cars but on my 68 Fastback each side has 2 pcs.First pc riveted in and then the channel. On my 67 Coupe it is only one pc..I think you are in for a long hunt....

There is a guy on this forum who has a long thread running on i believe his 67 mustang. He put a EPAS steering kit in his car.Pretty sure it was a 3 pedal car..Yes it will be tight....

Thanks for the link....Cory

I know some one who did this in a early Mustang as well. They used Toyota Prius stuff..I am thinking of doing it to my 67 T/A replica..A pump and hoses will just look wrong under the hood..

Very cool..Whats it going into (Cobra ??) I see the heater hose fitting has been capped by what looks to be the correct plug and clamp.I also see a 2 wire dist with vacuum advance and a good mech fuel pump..Well done....Cory

Where to hide the motor was one of my concerns..Car is a 4spd...Happy to hear you like it and that it works good.I read that you can adjust how much assist you get as well....Thank you.....Cory

Very nice....wondering about the Epas steering...Thinking of doing it to my 67 Mustang T/A replica.Quick ratio manual is getting a little hard for me and a pump under the hood would destroy the theme..A little help would be nice...how do you like it..

Found the flex plate ring. Has anyone used any of the aftermarket tranny tubes like the one that actually mounts to the firewall.
Also has anyone used the original chrome baldies with T&D race rockers. I laid them on there and it’s close maybe a thicker valve cover gasket or is there such a thing as a valve cover spacer.

I have valve cover spacers on my 289 which uses GT-350R valve covers and I have roller rockers.I also bought a set for a 340 I was involved in.So its possible.Just do some searching.Jay could certainly make some as he has alot of that info already loaded..
