FE Technical Forum / 418 1st Start-Up
« on: June 16, 2015, 07:19:23 PM »
1st start-up of 418. Only a 12 second video as did not know what to expect the first time cranking. Running in about 2 seconds. Shut it down just to check things over.

A ball of fire on 1st startup too. LOL  When I saw my friend jump back shut it down.

Next video was a bit over 2 minutes long but it took a while for fuel to get to pump as had fuel lines off and completely drained.

2 minute 2nd start-up

Pics following

70 PSI oil pressure hot at under 2000 rpm

Temp just touched 200 deg after 15 minutes running. I will now adjust timing and restart. Probably need mufflers before test drive.

No leaks all is good so far. Runs great but think timing here is a bit late. New MSD timing boxes do not allow for my typical timing set.

A bit loud for this neighborhood . .

FE Technical Forum / What to do with a 352 . .
« on: May 15, 2015, 12:30:24 AM »
Original 352 From my 1966 F100

Couple reasons for pulling the 352:

1) Bad oil leak at back of engine

2) Truck dyno test mule for the 418 FE

This engine ran soooo well did not use oil (until it developed the leak)

Because I wanted to replace all gaskets and seals once it was out, clean it up a bit with a bit of detail work before I drop it back in,

Pulled the intake, oil pan just to take a peak at the bearings. Was reasonably sure the engine had never been apart or out but was curious as to what the bearings looked like after 50yrs of use. This is the 3rd 352 truck engine I have taken out and apart that ran really well. None had been apart.

Pulling pan it looked pretty darn good in there for not having been touched.

FE Technical Forum / FE Engine Weight Comparo
« on: May 12, 2015, 11:20:20 AM »
I have seen FE weights numerous times on the net but it seem like half those were guesses.

Out of curiosity I decided to weigh a bunch of FE parts on a newly calibrated scale.

Often one asks how much they will save using aluminum heads, intake etc

I know others have most likely done this but its hard to find info online.

1st up was the total weight of the 1966 352 I had just removed from my F100

1966 352

708 lbs     Complete carb to pan including flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, water pump, fuel pump, distributor, balancer

Pretty much as pulled out of truck.

I know I seen it somewhere but what plugs are you running with BBM heads?

Is the 3924 a proper plug?

FE Technical Forum / Torque to turn crank~Shortblock
« on: April 07, 2015, 11:13:24 AM »
Just curious what people are seeing on a FE with crank installed along with rear seal and all mains torqued.

Assembly of my 418 (finally) and with crank installed it seemed to spin as easy or easier than any other I can recall.

The lowest setting on my inch lb wrench is 23.   That is enough to spin the crank with ease.

What kind of torque to turn with all pistons in along with cam?  Basic short block . .

Private Classifieds / Twin Turbo Kit with Intercooler
« on: September 25, 2014, 10:42:00 PM »
I picked up this kit for use in my 1966 F100 with a 416 FE. Its all new in boxes, never bolted on.

More of a universal kit that says Corvette~Viper

T4's

Intercooler & Aluminum piping, clamps etc

For how far behind I am on all my other FE projects this one is so far down the road that I should just let it go to someone that can use it.

850.00 For complete setup

NOS still in the package chrome front bumper. C4TZ part number

This does fit the 64-66 Trucks but it does not have the bevel on end like a original truck would. I bought it NOS to fit my 427 truck years ago. It was in wrapper and a large wooden crate. I simply never looked at it and took the guys word it was the 64-66 style. When I opened it recently found its more the 67-72 Style.  I paid 500.00 because so hard to find. Will take 350.00 OBO

A lot of truck guys here restoring so thought I would try here first . . .

Super hard to find a 3/8 fuel sender for a 66-67 427 Comet~Fairlane.
This was off my '67 427 Comet. I have given up on idea I would buy it back some day.

I also have the rear tailpipe hangars from same car

A long time ago a forum member was looking for a nice windshield washer bottle and bracket for a 1966 Comet. When I went to send it I could not find it. Well I found it the other day . . So to that person or someone else looking. Looks like new . .

Need funds to finish my 427 Truck project. Keep watching as will be adding parts here vs starting another post . .

I need to order a driveshaft for my '66 F100 482

Who do the members here use?

Thinking on a aluminum one

Getting to the point I need to build headers for my 66 f100.

482"
Tunnel Wedge and carbs from Barry
10.41 comp
Heads are also from Barry CNC'd Edels

Cam was made for a stock 427 Cuber so a bit small and may need to upgrade. Suggestions for cam also. Its a Solid Roller

As long as I am having to build headers from scratch I want to be in the ballpark with tube size and length and also collector size and length
