FE Technical Forum / Re: thermactor air pump used as a......
« on: April 08, 2012, 06:53:40 PM »
yeah, a few years back I experimented with a power brake vacuum pump from a desiel school bus that I plumbed into the road draft tube on my 67. made about a tenth and 2-3 mph improvement if I remember. however the pump seized after a few passes and then I sold that car and did not pursue the idea anymore, until now...

The trouble with the leaf blower approach is that it requires such a long extension cord!

+1 on 'build-your-own'. And if you don't have welding skills, you can probably importune a friend who has the skill to do it for you. It's a COOL project with great benefit!   :)

Jay, you got off easy! I went to Columbus with a pocket full of money about 15 years ago and I think I paid $75 for my copy. (And I'm told mine may be a re-print also!)

If you want to get real itchy, get a Speedway Hot Rod catalog and look at the go-fast stuff for flatheads. (My first hot rod was a '53 Merc. I put three Stromberg 97s on it, on an Offy manifold. I scrounged all three carbs. Speedway now sells new ones for about $300 each.)

I would think it would be easier to make a V16, based off of a V8, than it would be to make a V12.   Basically just two of almost everything.  It seems like it would be difficult to make a good intake manifold for an FE based V12, for instance.    I dunno.

paulie

All kidding aside, Razor did the welding to join the two blocks and the four heads necessary to make the V-12 engine that went in the 'GT-90' Ford. One cylinder off each side of the front of one block and the same off the rear of another then weld the two six cylinder blocks together. Same process for the heads. Google 'GT-90' for more information.

From the mid-'40s, as a little kid living in Suburban Seattle (Renton)---

"I've traveled all over this country
And I'll tell you that man's never found
A place that's more rainy and foggy
Than the city on old Puget Sound..."

My mother said she didn't let me go out all summer without wearing a sweater.

FE Technical Forum / Re: 2 Bolt/ 3 Bolt Mounts?
« on: March 29, 2012, 01:14:37 AM »
To clarify, my memory says that two of the three holes in the mount lined up with the two holes in the block.  The memory from late in '67 is somewhat fuzzy, but I didn't have to re-work the mount at all. I was mildly concerned about that third hole 'hangin' out in the breeze' but it never caused any trouble.

Dr, You raise an interesting point.

When my '67 XR7GT Cougar was a few months old, I acquired a '63 427 engine, in a basket, and set about putting it together to go in the 'Cat'. I won't go through all the parts, but I put in such things as a new 'AA' cam and a set of shell lifters, did a valve job, and topped it all off with an 'XE' Sidewinder. I cut the flanges off a set of Hooker (I think) headers and substituted a set of up-'n'-down-only '27 pieces, etc.

When it came time to put the engine in the car, I noticed the mis-match at the mounts and got all excited for a few minutes. But even the two on the block and 3 on the '67 mounts lined-up OK somehow and the engine dropped right down where it was supposed to go.

I don't remember all the details, but somehow it DID fit together without any problems. I've noticed other comments such as yours, but I know what I did!  ?????

Happened to me twice today. It simply required that I go back and submit the second time. No harm done. Just now did it again.

Private Classifieds / Holley LeMans-type float bowls
« on: March 24, 2012, 01:33:36 PM »

SOLD___SOLD___SOLD

For sale---Holley float bowls

NEW Old Stock (never installed) 'LeMans-style' Holley float bowls with nytrophyl floats. Also one spare float. Call or email for photos.

I've been cleaning out the garage and have found some odd items I'll never use. I have NO IDEA as to the  realistic value of these Holley parts but Carl's Ford Parts has the remaining supply of the last batch made and he is pricing them at $120 each and the spare float at $22.00. Somewhere between $100.00 and Carl's price will find me very willing to come to terms with interested parties.

Hi Mike---

It's probably about five years or so old. As I indicated above, they superceded it "about two years ago" according to the tech I spoke to at Holley yesterday. The box calls it a '950 Commander'.

Give me an email address and I'll take some pictures, if you like. Or call me and I'll try to answer any questions you may have!

SOLD---SOLD---SOLD
New-in-box---Commander 950 progressive linkage Electronic Fuel Injection carburetor replacement. This package contains everything to convert your four barrel carb'd V-8 engine to EFI, except for the fuel lines. The fuel pump, all the electrics, the instructions and software and everything else, is in the box. I got this to replace the Holley EFI that I put on my truck close to 15 years ago, but never got around to installing it and it has just been setting on a shelf in my garage. After you get it running you'll need a laptop to tune with. All the hook-up stuff is supplied.

Holley told me that this sold for "about $1800.00" when it was superceded about two years ago. The replacement kit costs "well over $2000.00" so when you get this from me you will have paid less than half. Give me $950.00 and pay shipping for about 15 pounds from Metro Detroit to you and get into the 21st Century!
